About this calculator
List your bars — size, length and number — and get the weight of each line, the total in kg and tons, and the cost at today's steel price. Works for inch bars (#3–#10) and metric bars.
How it's calculated
- Weight per metre (kg) = d² ÷ 162.2, with d in mm
- #3 = 9.5 mm, #4 = 12.7 mm, #5 = 15.9 mm, #6 = 19.1 mm, #8 = 25.4 mm
- Total = Σ (kg/m × length × number) + laps & wastage
What is the weight of a #4 bar?
0.994 kg per metre, or about 0.30 kg per foot — a 40 ft bar weighs about 12.1 kg.
